Announced in April 2022, the AYUSH visa is set to launch for travellers coming to India to avail treatments under the AYUSH methods – Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, and more. The visa is being introduced to push an already blooming medical tourism industry in the country, this time with a focus on treatments under these traditional Indian medical systems.
At the moment, the government of India is planning to push AYUSH medical tourism in the country, with the theme Heal In India, and the AYUSH Visa is an important part of the same. Under this programme, traditional medicines and healing practices will be encouraged. Modern medicine and AYUSH practitioners are expected to work together to boost Medical Value Tourism in the country and put India at a prominent place among the premium destinations for medical tourism.
During the Global AYUSH Investment & Innovation Summit 2022 at Gandhinagar back in April, PM Narendra Modi had stated that the way traditional medicine had boosted tourism in Kerala, the government saw similar capabilities in other parts of the country, too, said a Business Line report. Several states in the country, including Kerala, Goa, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and more are already famous as yoga, health and spiritual destinations.

The visa will help boost tourism in India. The country is already a popular travel destination among foreigners and is also experiencing a surge when it comes to medical tourism. With the AYUSH visa, this demand is expected to increase further, helping build the country’s economy at the same time. What’s more, bringing traditional medicine to the mainstream will only help it revive and grow further, as the world adapts to Ayurvedic practices.
The visa itself will make accessing these medical facilities easier, and is also expected to help travellers be able to come to India faster in comparison to traditional visas.
