Now you can enjoy the famous Melbourne Food & Wine Festival (MFWF) from the comfort of your home via its online edition starting May 25 till May 30. The virtual programme will comprise of talks, trivia, troubleshooting, tours, Q&As, and a blockbuster showcase of international and Victorian talent, along with takeaway menus, prizes and special offers.
On May 25, Ben Shewry, chef and owner of Attica will introduce MFWF: The Online Edition to the world, and Melbourne baker extraordinaire Mike Russell, will answer your questions and solve your home baking queries; Noma chef and co-owner René Redzepi, will tell you about her lockdown learnings; Chinese food adventurers Victor Liong, Lee Ho Fook, and Andrew Wong, and A Wong, will have a one-on-one session. The famous Lune Croissanterie will delve into its buttery notebooks to pull out pastry hits from festivals past. Mister Bianco will give you an experience of The Italian Job with a three-course meal for two with wine inspired by the 1969 Michael Caine classic heist movie.

On May 26, join Melbourne-based cook, author, teacher, and the creator of the Ostro site Julia Busuttil Nishimura for a cuppa over lunch to talk cooking, kids, the wonder of the one-pan dish and maybe even get a preview of her new cookbook A Year of Simple Family Food. Later, you can learn how to cook meat with Rockpool founder Neil Perry.
On May 27, you will get a chance to cook online with Hamish Blake and Senator Briggs – its a collab between Attica and Lune. Later, one of Australia’s most celebrated pastry chefs Philippa Sibley will solve your pastry crimes. Chef Massimo Bottura of Osteria Francescana will go live from the lasagna heartland of Emilia Romagna, to talk about the dish. Leonardo’s chef Nick Stanton will pay tribute to Lee Tiernan’s Black Axe Mangal’s foie gras ice-cream, with salted-almond praline and maraschino cherry, instead of cherry, peanut butter and a biscuit.

On May 28, Brae with Dan Hunter will give a tour of the kitchen, and owner-chef Dan Hunter will accompany you. The maker of Netflix series Ugly Delicious, writer and co-editor of food magazine Lucky Peach — Chris Ying will revisit some of his favourite moments from the archives. Shannon Martinez of Smith & Daughters will teach you some vegan hacks. Bar Saracen, Melbourne’s hippest eatery of Middle Eastern appearance will pay tribute to the city’s godfather of Middle Eastern restaurant cooking with a takeaway take on some of Greg Malouf’s dishes from protégé and former Momo chef Brooke Payne and Tom Sarafian and his team.

On May 29, Kate Reid will take you on a behind-the-scenes tour of Lune Croissanterie’s kitchen, making Kate Reid-grade croissants. Award-winning wine and food writers Max Allen and Richard Cornish will stream live from Pope Joan, and tell the fascinating story of the plunder of Victoria’s ancient native oyster reefs to feed goldrush Melbourne and how today those reefs are being brought back to life. Shane Delia will open his kitchen at home and walk you through some favourite dishes from his new Maha Go repertoire.
