Come January, and Bikaner will play host to the Bikaner Camel Festival. Complete with cultural performances, art and artefacts and camels in colourful clothes, the festival will be a display of culture and tradition like none other.
On January 11 and 12, 2023, Bikaner will host the annual Camel Festival. The festival celebrates the ship of the desert, which is essential to the desert’s life. The festival, an initiative of the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, is celebrated with dance, art and culture.

The two-day festival is celebrated with great pomp and show. The festival, which hosts live processions, art and cultural performances, craft and shops and more, revolves primarily around camels, the lifeline of the desert. It promotes breeding, taming and training of camels, reports state. The festival is visited by both domestic and international tourists.
The Bikaner Camel Festival starts with a grand procession of the animals, dressed up in colourful attire and jewellery. This procession begins at the Junagarh Fort, from where it goes to the Dr Karni Singh Stadium, which is the main venue for the festival. On day 1, festivities such as a camel pageant, camel milking, shearing and dancing contests are organised. On Day 2, competitions where visitors can take part, such as tug-of-war, water pot race, turban tying contests, kabaddi, traditional wrestling and other such events take place for everyone to enjoy.
The fair is complete with music, art and dance, traditional performances, shops selling local, traditional junk jewellery and more. There’s also local food on offer, for visitors to get a flavour of Rajasthan.
