Nearly three years after his death, Anthony Bourdain‘s legacy continues to grow. The world-renowned author and television personality is the subject of the forthcoming documentary Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, which hits theatres on July 16. By Maria Yagoda
On Friday morning, Focus Films released the first trailer for the film—”an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef became a world-renowned cultural icon,” directed by Academy Award-winner Morgan Neville.
The documentary was first announced in 2019. At the time, the director shared, “Anthony Bourdain did more to help us understand each other than just about anyone in the history of television. He connected with people not in spite of his flaws, but because of them. To have the opportunity to tell his story is humbling.”
The film includes behind-the-scenes clips from Bourdain’s various shows, as well as interviews with friends and colleagues, including Eric Ripert and David Chang. Bourdain, who died by suicide at age 61 in 2018, first rose to stardom with the breakout hit of his 2000 culinary memoir, Kitchen Confidential.
In April, Bourdain’s former assistant and writer Laurie Woolever released World Travel: An Irreverent Guide, which she co-wrote with Bourdain.
