‘Dress in layers like cabbage’ to keep yourself warm
Situated about 450 kilometres (280 miles) south of the Arctic circle, on the glaciers of Russia, natives of the cold city frequently notice that the thermometer usually falls below minus 40 degrees Celsius. According to a report published by Reuters, one of the residents said – “You can’t fight it. You either adjust and dress accordingly or you suffer.” The resident was seen draped in two scarves and several layers of gloves, hoodies, and hats. Another resident added that one can simply dress in layers ‘like a cabbage’ to keep oneself warm. There, the residents who sell fish, do not even need an additional freezer to keep the fish fresh and frozen.

By Plane
Primarily, there are two airports which make it possible to travel to Yakutsk by flight. One is the Magan Domestic Airport in Russia which mostly serves flights within the region of Yakutsk, along with private flights. The other one is the Tuimada International Airport which serves direct flights from Khabarovsk, Novosibirsk, Saint Petersburg, Irkutsk, and Moscow. From the domestic airport, it takes more than an hour to reach the destination by cab or bus.

Yakutsk is not directly connected to any Russian railway network. The closest railway station would be Tommot which happens to be 453 kilometres away from the destination.
By Car
The only road which links Yakutsk to the other districts in Russia is the A360 Lena Highway road. The road is often addressed as the Amur-Yakutsk Highway.
