The USA has finally eased its COVID-19 travel restrictions for India, and lowered the country from Level 4 (the highest) to Level 3. This means that American citizens can reconsider travelling to the country due to serious safety and security risks, as reported by The Hindu. The North American country’s state department reportedly made these relaxations after evaluating the improving COVID-19 situation in the country.

Earlier this year, on May 5, the USA’s government had put India in Level 4, which entails a complete ban on travel to the countries in the category. However, the travel restrictions imposed in May that prevented all non-USA citizens who have been to India within the last 14 days from entering the USA still continues. Permanent USA residents and non-USA students are exempted. Also, travellers flying to the USA are required to present a negative COVID-19 test result or report of recovery from Coronavirus.
Further, the USA’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised USA citizens travelling to India to get fully vaccinated before travelling and continue taking safety measures against the virus, including wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, regularly using hand sanitisers, etc. Travellers are also urged to get their flu shots as a precautionary measure. Further, abiding by guidelines issued by the Indian government is also obligatory.
