The music Gods seem to have heard our prayers and fulfilled our ‘desire’. ‘It’s a beautiful day’ because we just found out U2 is coming to India. Here’s all we know about the Irish band’s first Indian tour. By Bayar Jain
After months of speculation, Irish rock band U2 have finally confirmed their much-awaited India tour. Expected to perform on December 15 this year, the band’s frontman Bono and guitarist The Edge confirmed that their Mumbai show at DY Patil Stadium will also be the final date of their iconic Joshua Tree tour. Although this tour commemorating the 30th anniversary of the band’s seminal 1987 album of the same name was announced months ago, the addition of India in the venue list is new.
“We have been around the world with ‘The Joshua Tree,’ and we can’t think of a better place to celebrate the end of this tour,” The Edge said in a recent interview. “Mumbai, India, we’re coming for you – I hope you’re ready.” Adding to this, Bono said, “It will be such a thrill. We became U2 not through our records but through our shows and concerts, and the Mumbai show will be a big moment.”
The 2019 tour kicks off November 8, in Auckland, New Zealand, and will go on to the Australian cities of Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. The latter half of the tour consists of more maiden shows by the band in cities such as Singapore, Seoul, and Manila before concluding in Mumbai.
The Mumbai show will be produced by Live Nation Global Touring, an American events promoter and the dates will be available from October 1st. Starting at 3,000 INR, tickets will be available on BookyMyShow and LiveNation.
