Some timepieces celebrate landmarks, often paying tribute to their brands’ legacies by reintroducing classics to today’s connoisseurs. We present five outstanding watches of 2019 that celebrate an occasion, a landmark that connects the past with the present. By Mitrajit Bhattacharya
1. LANGE 1, 25TH ANNIVERSARY
A LANGE & SÖHNE
The design codes of Lange 1 have epitomised the identity of the brand since its inception in 1994. In its 25th year, the watch family came up with an anniversary edition. With its asymmetric dial, three-day movement, and the first outsize date in a regularly produced wristwatch, the Lange 1 still elicits the same enthusiasm. 250 pieces only; price on request.
2. HERITAGE PULSOGRAPH LIMITED EDITION 100
MONTBLANC
The new Heritage Pulsograph Limited Edition 100 takes us back to an era when it was used to check a patient’s heart rate. This 40mm timepiece comes in steel and includes a doctor’s pulsograph indication graduated for 30 pulsations. INR 25,54,400
3. MASTERPIECE COLLECTION SPRING DRIVE
GRAND SEIKO
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive movements. The launch of the season was a special watch, limited to 30 pieces, in platinum that features the famous ‘snowflake’ pattern dial. This watch has a gold plate on the movement that can be custom-engraved. INR 55,10,000
4. KALPA HEBDOMADAIRE
PARMIGIANI
The new Kalpa Hebdomadaire is a tribute to the founder Michel Parmigiani. The watch moves on Parmigiani Fleurier’s iconic calibre PF110 that features hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o’clock, date, and power reserve indicator. INR 28,19,000
5. BIG BANG SCUDERIA FERRARI 90TH ANNIVERSARY
HUBLOT
To celebrate the 90th birthday of Ferrari, Hublot, the long-standing partner of Scuderia Ferrari, presented this watch earlier this year. Available in three editions of 90 pieces each, the series is developed in collaboration with the Ferrari Design Centre. The 45mm diameter in all three editions houses the famous UNICO movement and a flybak chronograph. The bezel is cut in ceramic carbon, which is used for F1 brake discs. The 3D carbon edition reflects the present-day Scuderia Ferrari. Its strap is made from Nomex—the fire-resistant fibre used to make suits for race drivers. INR 24,01,700
