Sufi lovers, we have news for you! The Sufi Route, India’s foremost global Sufi festival is kick-starting today in Delhi NCR. And guess what! The line-up comprises A.R. Rahman, Satinder Sartaaj, Nooran Sisters and others. Need we say more? By Priyanka Chakrabarti
The Sufi Route, India’s most beloved Sufi carnival starts today in Delhi NCR. Now, that’s what perfect winter evenings are made of. Agree? Conceptualised to spread the magic of Sufi poetry and music across the map, The Sufi Route’s debut edition was all about celebrating the essence of peace and inclusion. And this time too, they are all set to commemorate the spirit of harmony and global love.
This year, the festival will open its door to patrons at Kalagram (Delhi’s brand new events venue), Garden of Five Senses, which will simultaneously be launched by Delhi Tourism.
British singer and songwriter Sami Yusuf along with music maestro A. R. Rahman will commence the cultural extravaganza. Also, be ready to get mesmerised by astounding performances of artists like Satinder Sartaaj, Nooran Sisters, Dhruv Sangari and others who will transport you to a cosmic sphere where old-world mysticism will meet new-world charisma.
Additionally, the event will be moderated by celebrated lyricist and poet Manoj Muntashir, who will bring forth the beautiful essence of Sufism’s rich cultural heritage to the forefront. We feel it will be one of the most cherished experiences ever!
Alongside the music, Sufi lovers can indulge in signature cuisines curated by the chefs from Andaz Delhi.
Shital Bhatia, of Friday Film Music Project, states, “In tumultuous and unpredictable times, we need to constantly reconnect with our roots. Over the years, not just the aged but also the youth have been pulled into the realm of ecstasy which Sufi poetry has owned in its fold for centuries and it’s encouraging to see how the festival attracts a diverse age group congregation. We are expecting a footfall of close to five thousand attendees this year.”
Sami Yusuf adds, “Sufism is about seeing the truth and beauty at the essence of all things. Sufi music, while highly entertaining, communicates the complex layers of meaning found in Sufism directly to the souls of its listeners. India’s remarkable spiritual legacy has always been a fountain of wisdom for the rest of the world. Now with divisions on the rise, the universality and tolerance of Sufism can help us transcend surface differences and reach a place of harmony. This will be my first ever performance in India and I’m very excited to be part of this amazing event.”
The Sufi Route is all about nurturing a holistic alternate music experience. They aim to pay homage to the ancient roots of Sufi music and poetry.
