This Swedish restaurant has come up with an ingenious way to serve foodies in the middle of the global pandemic. Here’s how Bord för En or Table for One is allowing people to eat out whilst following social distancing rules. By Upasana Singh
With Coronavirus lockdown in force, restaurants and bars around the world have been closed. In order to survive, several changes in dining patterns are being made to serve customers amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The most innovative restaurant has been opened up by a couple in Ransäter, Sweden. The duo, Persson and Karlsson, have come up with the idea of a one-person restaurant in the middle of a field to serve people in these socially distant times.
The restaurant is named Bord för En, which translates to Table for One and is expected to open on May 10 and remain open until August 1. It will serve only one customer per day with reservations available from 10 am to 10:45 pm. Instead of a server, the food will be sent down from the kitchen in a picnic basket via a rope with the help of an old bicycle wheel. Once the guests leave, the cutlery and the dishes will be washed twice and the table and chair will be left untouched for six hours, after which they will be thoroughly sanitized.
If you’re wondering what’s on the menu, each three-course meal has been created by Persson, along with drinks curated by top cocktail maker Joel Söderbäck, known for his high-end bars in Sweden. The completely vegetarian sample spread includes dishes such as Råraka, a Swedish-style hash brown served with vegan kelp caviar and smetana (a type of sour cream); Black and Yellow, a yellow carrot-ginger purée with browned hazelnut butter, sweet corn croquettes and ash made from serpent root; and Last Days of Summer, which is blueberries soaked in gin, served in iced buttermilk and topped with crushed sugar and viola flowers. Such a fancy menu might make you wonder about the cost of the meal. However, much to the delight of the guests, Persson and Karlsson have decided to let them pay what they want.

The idea behind this unique restaurant was inspired by Karlsson’s parents visiting the couple. To avoid the risk of spreading Coronavirus and following social distancing rules, Persson, a former chef, decided to place a table in the meadow outside their home and serve food to his in-laws through their window.
The couple hopes that the restaurant will enable people to spend quality time with themselves and their inner being. They fully intend to practice the strict lockdown measures issued by the Swedish government whilst allowing guests to experience solo dining like no other.
