The sun, moon and stars make for great bodies that demand exploration, hiding many secrets behind their many layers, which give one the greatest joy to uncover.
One such phenomenon that makes celestial bodies such as Earth’s moon stand out is the blood moon, which occurs as a result of a total lunar eclipse. It is an astronomical phenomenon when the Earth comes in between the sun and the moon, blocking all sunlight from falling on the planet’s natural satellite. This results in the moon acquiring a reddish-brown hue, which has given it its name, i.e. blood moon.

The blood moon is also called the flower blood moon (since the full moon in May is called the flower moon to indicate spring blossoms), and the eclipse has been named the Flower Moon Eclipse, state reports. The phenomenon will be visible from late night on May 16 to the early hours of May 16, 2022. Like any other eclipse, it is advisable to view it with all necessary precautions being taken care of, lest it causes any damage to the eyes.
There are two such blood moons that are set to occur this year – the first in May and the second in November. The eclipse in May will not be seen in India, while the one in November is said to be visible from Kolkata, according to Mint. However, the phenomenon will be visible in these parts across the globe:
