Vande Bharat Express trains will soon have sleeper cars too! Here’s all you need to know about the sleeper version of the semi-high-speed trains.
With the massive success of the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express trains, the upcoming version of the train is expected to be faster and better. At the moment, two versions of Vande Bharat Express trains are operating on Indian train tracks: VB1 and VB2. Both of these models only have chair cars. The sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express is yet to be launched.
The much-awaited sleeper version of the train has become a centre of attraction among railway passengers. This next version of the train will be designed to travel at the top speed of 220 km/h. However, the aluminium sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express will only be able to run at a speed of 200 km/h on the tracks. Furthermore, the sleeper version is going to be an alternative to the Rajdhani Express.
The Indian Railways has issued a tender for producing 400 Vande Bharat Express trains, according to the Press Trust of India. The new trains will be produced at Integral Coach Factory (Chennai, Tamil Nadu), Marthwada Rail Factory (Latur, Maharashtra), and Rail Coach Factory (Sonipat, Haryana).
How many Vande Bharat Express trains are running at the moment?
Previously known as Train 18, the Vande Bharat Express trains were first launched in 2019. Ever since then, a total of seven Vande Bharat Express trains have been running across India. These special trains are India’s first semi-high-speed trains. The trains can be found running on these seven routes: Delhi-Varanasi, Delhi-Katra, Gandhinagar-Mumbai, Delhi-Una, Chennai-Mysuru, Bilaspur-Nagpur, and Howrah-New Jalpaiguri. All of them have a record of reducing the travel time between the two destinations, making them fast and comfortable. At the moment, the top speed of the trains is 160 km/h.
