On the occasion of International Women’s Month, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) installed sanitary pad vending machines at all 21 stations on the Aqua metro line. By Kumar Shree
The NMRC celebrated International Women’s Day in a thoughtful and revolutionary way. They introduced sanitary pad kiosks at all 21 stations of the Aqua metro line. While the kiosks attracted a few inquisitive eyes as people were trying to read and understand the instructions for using the machine on day one, it is surely a step forward in the right direction. We are positive, the machine will see more users with every passing day.

Apart from this, the NMRC gave a special gift to all women passengers by unveiling two stations on the Aqua line metro corridor named as ‘Pink stations’. These stations are Sector 76 and Pari Chowk. “The purpose is to ease the commute for women passengers,” said an NMRC official. The officials also declared that these Pink stations will have a baby-feeding room, a diaper changing room, a vanity-cum-changing room, and a selfie point as well. These services will be free of cost for users. Not only this, the NMRC also aims to have all-women staff at these two stations. All staff except for the security personnel will be women at these two stations, as the security is an outsourced job to a private firm.
The officials stated that women who wish to avail the facility will be given a token. This token when deposited in the kiosk will release one sanitary napkin from the machine. As of now, these machines can store up to 50 napkins. This capacity can be increased in future depending on the need and use. All of these machines have been installed in place by NGO Mahamana Aradhak Shri Sewa in collaboration with ACE Group under their CSR campaign, ‘Nirmalya — Ek Komal Pahal’.
