On May 24, 1962, Breitling became the first Swiss wristwatch to travel to space after astronaut Scott Carpenter went aboard the Mercury-Atlas 7 spacecraft wearing the Navitimer Cosmonaute. The watchmaker unveiled a contemporary tribute to that expedition on its 60th anniversary, with new features such as a platinum bezel and open sapphire crystal caseback with special bridge engravings.
