Now you can fly directly from Kochi to London as Air India will soon be operating direct flights between the two cities from August 28 to September 27, under the Government’s ongoing Vande Bharat Mission. As of now, the national carrier is operating direct flights from London to Delhi and Mumbai, and only feeder flights to Kochi. However, this is the first time a direct flight will be operated from Kerala to any European country.
“Flight AI 1186 will come in from London, and land at Kochi at 00:15 hours on Sundays, and then leave for London at 12:20 hours on the same day. The second flight of the week will land at Kochi at 04:00 hours every Friday, and then depart on the same day at 06:00 hours,” the Kochi airport was quoted by the media. The decision has been made in order to avoid the risk of infection from layovers, which the passengers have been facing otherwise.

Moreover, Air India had earlier also announced adding 14 more flights to the Vande Bharat Mission from cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Cochin, Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Amritsar and Kolkata.
“Over 6,60,000 stranded Indians have returned with the help of chartered flights, over 11,59,000 lakh stranded Indians have been repatriated through various means, and over 3,62,000 stranded Indians have been repatriated with the help of @FlyWithIX and @airindiain, under #VandeBharat Mission,” Ministry of Civil Aviation tweeted.

“While we near the 100K daily passenger mark in domestic travel, VBM continues to facilitate inbound & outbound international travel of citizens. 11.59 Lakh people have returned. 163K have flown out. 4390 have come back on 23 Aug 2020,” Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri added.
Kochi’s Ernakulam district yesterday recorded 114 new cases of Coronavirus, making the total tally of active cases in the district to 1,828 (as on August 24, 2020). Meanwhile, Kerala as a whole recorded 2,171 new cases on Saturday, taking the total figure to over 56,000 (as on August 24, 2020).
