Kerala has just got its first Vande Bharat Express, becoming the fifth state in South India to get the premium train. The train will run between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod stations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Kerala, flagged off the semi-high speed carrier from the Thiruvananthapuram Central Station earlier today (April 25), media reports state.
The express train will run through 11 districts, namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod. Bookings for the train opened on April 23.

The train is expected to cover a distance of 587 kilometres in just eight hours and five minutes. The train will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 5:20 am and arrive at Kasargod at 1:25 pm. From there, the train will leave at 2:30 pm, and arrive at Thiruvananthapuram at 10:35 pm.
Except Thursdays, the Vande Bharat Express in Kerala will run on all other days. The train will have stoppages at the following stations: Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam-Kottayam-Ernakulam Town-Thrissur-Shoranur-Kozhikode-Kannur-Kasaragod.
Tickets for the journey from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod are priced at INR 1,590 for Chair Car and INR 2,880 for Executive Class. Of this, the catering fare is INR 379 for Chair Car and INR 434 for Executive Class. Chair Car fare for the return journey (Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram) is INR 1,520, of which INR 308 is the catering fare; for Executive Class, it is INR 2,815, of which INR 369 is the catering charge, a report in Mint states. The report adds that the food choice is optional, and if passengers choose the ‘No Food Option’, catering charges will not be included in their final fare.
