Kanpur’s famous Status Hospitality Group has come up with the concept of drive-in restaurants, more like picnic spots where you can park your car and dine with your family and friends while still maintaining social distancing. “Now Open – Drive & Dine by Dhuaan! Wednesday – Sunday 05:00 pm onwards,” it mentioned on its Instagram handle.
The Drive & Dine, which is the brainchild of group directors Yash and Insha Malhotra, has been set up in two lawns close to the restaurant Dhuaan, in Kanpur’s Cantonment area, with full safety measures. As you enter the kiosk, first, your temperature will be checked and then the bonnet of your car will be sanitised. After that, you will be provided with a token number that gives you all your parking details. Each car will have its own separate slot demarcated with ropes.

Moreover, while the parking area will be sanitised with electrostatic guns, the crockery and cutlery will be sterilised in a UV sterilisation chamber. Furthermore, guests will also be given a special case to place their masks when not in use.
“Drive in for a cup of coffee or a pint of beer. Can you think of a better way to spend your Monday evening? No reservations required,” Dhuaan – Sheesha & Kitchen mentioned on its Instagram handle.
In fact, if you want, you can even step out of the car within your designated spot and enjoy your food on the benches placed next to it. You can order from a variety of dishes from their menu via a QR code, and the food will be delivered to you safely in a golf cart.

The concept is just a month old and has already received a great response. Last week, the organisers hosted a drive-in movie night and are now planning to screen the IPL 2020 matches later this month. In future, they are also eyeing to hold distance bar nights once the state is through with alcohol permission. On these nights, mixologists will drive in a cart, and fix drinks for you by your car.
The Drive & Dine will operate throughout the week barring Sundays and will be set up in two lawns with a capacity of 10 and 30 cars, respectively. While the one with a capacity of 10 cars will be open from Monday to Wednesday, the other one that can accommodate 30 cars will stay open from Thursday to Saturday.
