Climate change is real and the threat it imposes is serious, too. A recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) raises concerns over the possibility of certain cities submerging in the foreseeable future.
The IPCC’s Climate Change Report, according to The Quint is said to be the “most important report on climate change.” It lays down considerable changes that need to be made regarding climate change. India ranks third in the list of absolute carbon emissions in the world, and it’s necessary for us to take steps to combat climate change.

The City of Dreams makes it to the list of places at threat of being submerged. Mumbai—a city known for its nightlife, beaches, glamour, the Bollywood industry and its ample work opportunities—remains at risk of ceasing to exist in the near future. Set on the shore of the Arabian sea, the state may face a 1.90 feet submerge threat if it continues to ignore climate change as something that needs to be acted upon immediately.

Despite being cuddled by nature, this Kerala city faces the imminent threat of climate change. The IPCC report states that Arabian Sea’s temperatures are rising quickly. This has resulted in disasters such as cyclones, heavy rains and more. And this, in the long term, might result in a massive chunk of land being taken over by water, with sea levels set to rise over 2.32 feet. Melting Himalayan glaciers also contribute towards endangering this city.

With an alarming prediction of being submerged under 2.70 feet of water, Bhavnagar in Gujarat faces an immediate threat of climate change, as reported by Zee News. Resting on the western shore of the Gulf of Khambhat (Cambay) of the Arabian Sea, this vintage city founded in 1724 might not be the same in the coming years if considerable action is not taken to combat climate change.

One of the most picturesque and bustling cities in Andhra Pradesh, Visakhapatnam has been identified as being exposed to coastal flooding due to a rise in sea levels. Further, 1.77 feet of the state’s landmass could get submerged in the near future, according to The Hindu. Global warming remains the prime cause, and the need to address the same is key to save this city from future disasters.

With this being the present, it only gets worse in the future with a prediction of almost 45 per cent of the city being impacted by climate change and resulting in the city going 1.87 feet underwater.
