Keeping in mind various factors that are important for planning a road trip, which includes attractions such as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, wildlife, natural beauty, a variety of landscapes and more, vacation homes aggregator Holidu ranked India in the top 10 countries for cross-country travel, reports Times of India.

India locked in at number 10, beating 108 other nations to grab the spot. The countries that are the top 10 for cross-country road trips are:

- Mexico
- Canada
- Malaysia
- Argentina
- Australia
- Brazil
- Bolivia
- Peru
- India
It is interesting to note that India is ahead of countries such as France, Germany, Japan, Turkey, and Spain, which are all known for being tourism magnets, reports Indiatimes. The report adds that the cross-country travel index assesses countries on a variety of key points, such as the number of attractions, land size, natural assets, vertebrate species, rainforests, landscape variations, and the number of ‘Best Cities’ in the top 100 rankings.
One of the reasons India has grabbed this high a spot, according to Times of India, is its 40 UNESCO World Heritage sites, about 1,900 animal species, and at least two cities, namely Mumbai and Delhi, that have helped it become more popular than the traditional common tourist spots. Another thing that has added to this high placement of India on the cross-country travel index is its quality of roads, fuel prices, and average weekly rentals for travel, at about INR Rs 13,000 per week.
The report also notes that FAITH, the policy federation of all the national associations representing the complete tourism, travel and hospitality industries of the country, has presented this index to the tourism ministry, stating that these rankings are important in determining the post-COVID-19 positioning of India and travel marketing campaigns.
