Italy’s Lazio region is offering refunds on wedding-related expenditure

According to a news report published in Times Now, Central Italy’s Lazio region will give couples refunds of up to €2,000 or INR 1,67,000 on wedding-related expenditure. Couples who get married in Lazio will get a refund on expenses incurred on services from event companies, catering, florists, and decoration. Lazio is home to some of Italy’s most iconic architectural gems, including the Colosseum.

The beautiful region of Lazio has everything: heritage monuments, rolling hills, clifftop villages, shimmering lakes, and crumbling badlands. Rome is also located in the Lazio region. Lazio is also home to the Spanish Steps and the popular Trevi Fountain. These make for great wedding destinations.

Under the “Lazio with love initiative”, the concerned authorities have set aside a budget of €10 million or INR 83 crore. This money will be used to reimburse Italian and foreign couples who choose to host their wedding in Lazio.

Italy is one of the most popular countries for destination weddings. Prolific couples including Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma and Kim Kardashian-Kanye West hosted their weddings in Italy. The move to offer refunds on basic wedding expenditure by Lazio is aimed at boosting the tourism economy of the region, which was hit by the pandemic.

Are you eligible?

You will be eligible to get a refund on your wedding expenditure if you marry before December 31, 2022. The refund will be initiated on an ex post facto basis or after the wedding has already begun or been completed. While the last official date for hosting a wedding in Lazio has been kept as December 31, 2022, you can deposit the receipts till January 31, 2023, or before the funds run out.
