According to the latest reports, Goa may soon become a digital nomad destination. The government is looking at ways to boost local economy and is in talks with the central government to launch the programme. Here are the details.
To expand the economy further and bring in more tourists, the government of Goa is looking at starting digital nomad visas for travellers. The government has begun conversations with the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of External Affairs and other ministries, to be able to launch a digital nomad visa programme for those who want to visit India and work here remotely. Goa is a popular tourist destination, and the visa will only add to the lure for international visitors to come here and stay for a longer time.

Goa looking to offer digital nomad visas to international visitors

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte stated that they are working with players in the homestay marketplace to be able to develop best practices for digital nomads, writes Times of India. If the visas come through, India will be the 46th country that would offer these visas. “We are talking to the PMO, the Union tourism minister and the Union IT minister. I believe the issue has been taken up with the minister for external affairs also. If we are able to open up the digital nomad concept, Goa has a lot to offer,” the report quoted Khaunte as saying.
The government is now evaluating the remote working visa structures of the other countries that offer them to individuals who have flexible jobs. This visa will also help contribute to the local economy, attracting people with a higher income (INR 70 lakhs approx) to come and spend in the city’s homes, nightlife and a lot more.
This is not all – three co-working spaces may soon be set up on the Ashvem, Morjim, and Benaulim beaches for the remote workers who wish to settle in the state.
