Here’s what we know about the Bengaluru-Chennai expressway
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Bengaluru-Chennai expressway in May 2022. According to a news report published in the Hindustan Times, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari has recently said that the much-awaited expressway will help commuters reach their destination in just two hours.
The four-lane double-decker elevated expressway will bring down the usual five to six hours travel time from Bengaluru to Chennai to two to three hours. Also under construction is the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, which will be ready by October 2022.
The Bengaluru-Chennai expressway is being built at a cost of INR 1,800 crore. The expressway will be 258 km long. The states it will take commuters through, include Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

The expressway will begin from Hoskote in Bengaluru. It will pass through towns like Malur, Bangarpet, Kolar Gold Fields, Palamaner, Chittoor, and Ranipet. The last point of the expressway will be the Kanchipuram district’s Sriperumbudur.
The ambitious project has been divided into three phases of construction by the National Highway Authority of India. The expressway will feature enhanced traffic safety devices. As many as six private companies are working on the construction of the expressway.
According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the four-lane elevated road between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal will lead to improved efficiency of Chennai Port. It will also help in relieving city traffic.
