Amid the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus, people across the world are advised to refrain from travelling. However, if you must, because of an emergency or unavoidable circumstances, then follow the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of yourself and your loved ones. By Manya Saini
The highly contagious COVID-19 has spread rapidly across the world leading to severe travel bans and restrictions. Still, if you can’t avoid travelling, then be sure to follow all possible safety measures to prevent catching the virus. As thousands of people move across airports, there is no complete assurance of safety, but sanitising your aircraft seat can go a long way to ensure your well being.

Once you board the flight, be sure to disinfect your airplane seat well. In case it is a long journey, repeat midway. Personal hygiene practices like washing your hands and face are of the utmost importance. The virus can survive on surfaces for a significant period, this includes seat trays, belts, door handles, and touch screens among others. Coming in contact with them is inevitable, so clean them well with a disinfectant. Follow up with washing your hands with a sanitiser or soap and water.
The key component to reducing the risk of contracting the coronavirus is reducing human interaction. The most certain way of doing so in a plane is choosing a window seat. In the corner, once you cleanse the surfaces, your chances of interactions are far less than the middle or aisle seats.

Another high-risk area that, if possible, you should try to steer clear from are the washrooms. Even under normal circumstances, public washrooms pose significant chances of contacting different bacteria and viruses. If however, you must use them, use tissue papers at the doorknobs and sanitise your hands well afterwards.
A small step that may not seem very effective at first glance can go a long way in making sure your health and safety are not compromised during air travel.
