Today Chicago could witness one of the coldest days ever on record, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 14 degrees below zero! This would mean Chicago will be colder than some of the most frosty spots on the planet.

For instance, the South Pole is expected to hit a temperature of 4 below zero today. Barrow, Alaska, the northernmost edge in the US, situated above the Arctic Circle, will witness a temperature of 7 below zero. Moreover, Zackenberg Station, Greenland that is also north of the Arctic Circle, will hit 11 degrees below zero.

A deep-seated, biting freeze has grasped the Midwest this week as the polar vortex drifts towards the south.

While the overnight low in Chicago could hit 20 below zero tonight, that’s not the coldest it’s ever been in the city. At least they’ll have it better than the good old folks in Oymyakon, Russia, where it is expected to be 34 below zero today!
