Future travels are bound to have safety and hygiene concerns buzzing through every traveller’s mind. Catering to this justified worry is Booking.com – a Dutch company which lists over 29 million accommodations worldwide – with their new search feature.
With this new feature, accommodation partners can now share details of the various safety initiatives in their areas, in turn facilitating a more transparent experience for customers. Partners will be able to select from a list of various safety parameters (such as provisions of sanitisers, availability of first-aid kits, presence of shared stationary, etc.); food (like provisions for in-room dining); and sanitisation (for example, whether the accommodation follows WHO guidelines, regular use of disinfectants, etc.) measures in place at their shelters. Social distancing norms in the form of cashless payments, the presence of screen barriers, mobile check-ins, etc. are also some of the markers that can be highlighted by partners. This selection will then be displayed to patrons of Booking.com as a dedicated ‘health and safety box’ on the website, allowing travellers to make an informed choice.
Commenting on the initiative, Ritu Mehrotra, Country Manager, India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives at Booking.com says, “As the situation evolves, we continue to update the support we provide, including enhanced transparency to consumers around health and safety information when booking on our platform. By introducing these safety measures, we will help set accurate expectations and bring additional peace of mind to travellers when they are ready to experience the world again.”
