Many of us have been in this situation where we happily board a flight knowing that we have a window seat, and then don’t find one. In worst-case scenarios, the window is just not there, and in the other it is not in sync with the seat. Its placement, either ahead or behind the seat leaves us craning our neck for the view outside. Here’s the answer to why airplane seats do not match up with the windows. By Kumar Shree

While aircraft manufacturing companies like Boeing or Airbus design their birds in a way that seats would easily line up with the windows, it’s the operating companies that are at fault for ensuring against it. These operators want to fill the cabin with as many seats as possible. There’s a simple business logic in that as well. More seats means more passengers on one flight, and that simply means more money per flight. It’s as simple at that.

While airline companies try to rake in more profits per flight by taking steps like this, it is the customer who pays for it, in ways more than one. You might save a few bucks on that ticket, but then you also have to compromise with unaligned windows and crammed leg space. Yes, that’s another area where you compromise in while flying on a low-cost carrier. Now you know why some planes feel more crammed than others.
Well, that’s the reason why airplane seats do not match up with the windows.
