An elegant brunch spot in the day and a happening diner by the night, Miso Sexy—with an enchanting view of the Qutub Minar—lives up to its catchy name. By Rashima Nagpal
Housed within the chic Ambawatta One complex in Mehrauli, Miso Sexy has quickly become the talk of the town. It is part of the family of First Fiddle Restaurants (helmed by restaurateur Priyank Sukhija) which includes other brands such as Diablo, Dragonfly Experience, Plum by Bent Chair, Lord of The Drinks, among others.

I drop by on a Saturday evening and find the two-storey restaurant brimming with people, and a queue of guests waiting outside. Needless to say, a reservation in advance is recommended. My table for two is reserved in the elegant indoors of the property, but I first head to the coveted terrace of Miso Sexy. This is where the bar is, right at the heart of a spacious rooftop overlooking the pièce de résistance, the Qutub Minar. The energy is infectious, although I usually prefer the quiet to the noisy. But the atmosphere grows on me and how—all it takes is two Aphrodites.

A concoction of pickled beetroot brine, pineapple reduction, orange bitter, tequila, and a hint of black pepper, Aphrodite is one of the signature cocktails at Miso Sexy. It has a slurry-like texture, and a sweet- and-spicy flavour that appeases my Asian palate. Other ‘Sexy Signatures’ that I try and can vouch for include Moshi Moshi, a white-rum based cocktail infused with dried apricot, kaffir lime liqueur, and a sweet and sour mix that typically comes with an egg white; and Taiyo, a flavourful dark rum concoction featuring hints of caramel, cardamom, pineapple, and jalapeno. The drinks go from bar side to dinner table effortlessly.

My table in one corner of the seating downstairs is good enough to still enjoy the buzz of the night as well as my company—and Qutub in the background. Chef Saurav Bhatnagar is at the helm of the kitchen at Miso Sexy. He regales me with a variety of fresh dim sum and sushi to begin with, followed by a course of corn curd cake (nicknamed the Sexy 3C’s), and a hearty main course of young jackfruit in spicy coconut curry with jasmine rice. It’s hard to find a fault—from a cream cheese dim sum to spicy tuna sushi, each dish has been thoughtfully appropriated to appeal to the Indian palate. For dessert, I’d say, ditch the typical sweet fare and go for a potent night cap—it might be useful to know that Miso Sexy also gets classics such as a margarita or a martini beautifully right.
I know I’m going back for a few of those, preferably in time to catch the sunset view this time around.
