Founded on the idea of honouring the culinary legacy of the late Kundan Lal Jaggi, Daryaganj recently made it big by pitching on Shark Tank India season 2, and clinching a deal with shark Aman Gupta, co-founder and CMO of boAt Lifestyle. With a legacy dating back to 1947, today the casual dining restaurant offers original and modern versions of the iconic North Indian dishes, including the signature Butter Chicken and Dal Makhni. Travel+Leisure India & South Asia stopped by at its outlet in Ambience Mall, Gurugram to experience this taste of history.

There are a variety of delectables for appetisers. Start with The Original Tandoori Chicken (INR 425), which is a finger-licking good dish. The tandoori chicken is succulent and perfectly marinated in yoghurt and secret spices. The Original Chicken Pakora (INR 425)—a creation by Kundan Lal Jaggi at Daryaganj dating back to 1947—is another delight. The boneless chicken pakora is fried with batter. Put simply, it is crispy and delicious! For those who want to try their mutton specialty, you will not be disappointed with the Mutton Seekh Kabab (INR 565). For vegetarians, the Bharwan Paneer Tikka (445) is a delicious option.

For the mains, we try The Original 1947 Butter Chicken (INR 585). This original recipe by Kundan Lal Jaggi is prepared with hand-crushed vine-ripe tomatoes, butter, and tandoori chicken, and infused with green chillies and ginger juliennes. The Daryaganj Mutton Curry (INR 635) with Butter Naan (INR 125) is a match made in heaven.
The Channa Masala (INR 365) is one of our favourites. It is creamy and rich in flavours. We also try The Original 1947 Dal Makhani (INR 435), an original recipe by Kundan Lal Jaggi—and boy did it live up to its expectations! It is indulgent and oozes with a nostalgia in every bite.
Desserts

What’s a North Indian meal without Kulfi? Daryaganj serves the Kesar Pista Kulfi (INR 95), a fun treat to enjoy with your family and friends. Thanks to a smartly designed protective cover, signature to the restaurant chain, soiling clothes with the dairy goodness is no concern! The warm and sweet Gulab Jamun (INR 165) is another perfect dessert to end the meal.
Our takeaway
Bringing to life the age-old recipes from Kundan Lal Jaggi, Daryaganj serves an exciting variety of North Indian cuisine. Kundan Lal Jaggi is often credited for inventing butter chicken and dal makhani, and his innovative creations continue to live on at each Daryaganj outlet (Aerocity, Connaught Place, and Tagore Garden in New Delhi; DLF Mall of India, Noida; and Ambience Mall Gurugram). The restaurant is decorated with nods to the 1950s, including old photographs on the walls and retro-inspired colour schemes, while also adding a contemporary touch. Daryaganj is for serious food lovers looking to gather over delicious food with family and friends.
