Delhi’s favourite go-to restaurant for authentic Indian food is back in a new avatar. As Aangan, an iconic restaurant of its times, returns as Aangan Reloaded at Hyatt Regency Delhi, we get a chance to dig into its delicious Indian fare. By Kumar Shree
As I sit under the open sky beside a warm fire pit bowl on a Monday evening, I feel blessed to be able to experience this. I find this alfresco setup delightful, especially on a winter evening. I’m sitting at Hyatt Regency Delhi’s exuberant lawns, waiting for Chef Anil Khurana’s culinary excellence to unravel on my table. I’m hoping to experience the ‘reloaded’ version of what used to be Delhi’s favourite restaurant, Aangan. Like the menu and its offerings, the name has also been revamped. Aangan is now known as Aangan Reloaded, and rightfully so!

I begin my evening with some Namak Para along with an assortment of chutneys, and Amuse Golgappa. As I munch on the Namak Para, I can see Chef Khurana and his team working their magic in the kitchen. I move on to relish the Amuse Golgappa, closing my eyes due to its flavourful punch on my palate. On opening my eyes, I see starters flying out of the kitchen. The evening is now in full swing!

Dahi Ke Kebab, Tandoori Broccoli, Paneer Tikka, Lasuni Jheenga, Mahi Tikka, Murg Afghani Tikka and Mutton Seekh Kebab take turns on my plate, as I indulge in each element one by one. Every single offering is absolutely on point. Chef Khurana’s culinary excellence and legacy reflect in every dish. Although my favourite starter is the Lasuni Jheenga—a flavourful prawn dish, my sister—and company for the evening—picks Murg Afghani Tikka. As I enjoy my meal, the show-runner, Chef Khurana, visits my table. I cannot help but enquire about his favourites. He picks Dahi Ke Kebab and Lasuni Jheenga.

For the main course, I have Raan-e-Aangan, Butter Chicken, Gucchi Methi Matar Malai, Paneer Gulistan, and Dal Makhani along with an assortment of Indian bread that includes Kulcha, Tandoori Roti, Naan, etc. Among the non-vegetarian offerings, Raan-e-Aangan truly tops the charts. Among vegetarian offerings, I love the creamy-textured Gucchi Methi Matar Malai.
By the time I’m done with the main course, I’m feeling more than full. But, after having tasted the culinary supremacy of Aangan Reloaded, I cannot risk missing out on the desserts! As I indulge in the Gur ki baked yoghurt, and Gajjar ka halwa, I thank myself for not skipping. The Gajjar ka halwa is the absolute best I’ve ever had, and Gur ki baked yoghurt (yoghurt baked with jaggery) can never go wrong, can it?

The warm hospitality at Aangan Reloaded deserves a special mention. By the end of the evening, I’m a sucker for the setup, the food, and the experience at Aagnan Reloaded. It’s a delightful symphony.
