What better way to tour the rocky mountains in Canada than in a train with a glass dome and an outdoor viewing platform to take in the breathtaking view of mountains and lakes? By Shrimayee Thakur
Offered by one of Canada’s biggest train companies, the GoldLeaf train carriage is a new, luxurious experience through Canada’s beautiful mountain range. The train has two levels, with the top level able to ferry 72 passengers at once, in comfortable reclining leather seats, while the bottom level is dedicated to a dining area. Executive chefs Jean Pierre Guerin and Frédéric Couton produce delicious breakfasts and three-course lunches that can be enjoyed with the large array of wines available on board. This comes as a part of an all-inclusive package.
The defining feature of the train, of course, is the glass enclosure of the carriage, which includes the roof, that allows passengers to take in the beautiful sights the Canadian Rockies have to offer with no interruption. The viewing platform at the back of the carriage is for those wanting to take in the fresh mountain air, and also lets people take unparalleled pictures of the surreal terrain with its towering jagged peaks and alpine lakes, as well the bountiful wildlife.
Operating from May to October, the GoldLeaf runs on two routes, the ‘First Passage to the West’, which goes from Vancouver to Lake Louise or Banff National Park, and the ‘Coastal Passage’ which goes from Vancouver to Jasper National Park. Trains on both routes run through the day and stop after sunset, and after a night’s stay in Kamloops, start again the next day. The packages are currently limited to two days, as both routes take two days each.
