A new research by an insurance company, William Russell, has showed that some holiday hotspots—cities, states and countries—will pay people to move there. So, take your pick and get planning! By Anushka Goel
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s been a significant increase in Zoom Towns—communities where house prices have suddenly sky-rocketed because of an influx of remote workers setting base there. According to a research by insurance company William Russell, there are many places using financial incentives to entice new residents. This may be because of a low population in the said place, a dwindling economy, or properties that need care. So, it seems like the best time for those looking to move homes (or even countries!) in search of an adventure, better work or home prospects, and more. These holiday hotspots that are incentivising people, offering them anywhere between USD 329 (INR 24,701) to USD 52,000 (INR 39,04,160) are:
- Spain
- Switzerland
- Italy
- Ireland
- Chile
- Mauritius
- Greece
- Croatia

Further, several places in the USA are offering people financial incentives to move there and work remotely, states the research. Perks include free desk space and a Remote Worker Grant. These places are:
- Oklahoma, which is offering USD 10,000 (INR 7,50,725)
- Minnesota, which is giving USD 2,500 (INR 1,87,681)
- Alaska, which is offering USD 1,600 (INR 1,20,116)
- Vermont, which is also offering USD 10,000 (INR 7,50,725)
There are also some places across the world that will pay you to renovate, if you plan on buying a property there. These places include Italy’s EUR 1 (INR 87) homes and Croatia’s HRK 1 (approximately INR 12) buys. The holiday hotspots offering incentives to people renovating homes include:
- Sicily
- Sardina
- Abruzzo
- Milano
- Legrad, Croatia
- Greece
