#IntimateTravel Goals: Any couple’s voyage to Kerala is incomplete without a delightful escape to Munnar. Its beauty and popularity have inspired many travellers to include it in their Kerala itineraries at least once in their lives. By Charvi and Jaymine of Love With Travel
Green as far as we can see—that is the most fitting way to describe Munnar, Kerala’s picturesque hill station. Nestled in the Western Ghats, Munnar offers splendid views and an equally good environment, which compliments this beautiful tea town’s aesthetic appeal.

Situated on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Kolukkumalai Tea Estate is an emerald-green sprawling tea estate. Located at a height of 7,900 feet, this tea estate is considered the world’s highest tea plantation grounds. It offers some of the most spectacular views of the rolling tea gardens, forests, and majestic mountains surrounding the Shola forest.

Established by a Scottish planter in the early 1900s, the tea estate still shines with an old-world elegance which takes us back to the former colonial period. Kolukkumalai, one of the best places to visit in Kerala, is the ideal place for any couple to enjoy panoramic views of nature and savour flavourful teas. Plus, the sunrise here is surreal!
Lockhart Gap Viewpoint

The Lockhart Gap viewpoint is one of Munnar’s most serene and calming places to explore, and potentially one of Kerala’s best hiking places, too. It is named after an almost heart-shaped road that can be seen from this breathtaking point. When here, say hello to mist-clad mountains, undulating clouds, winding trails, emerald-green valleys, and rows of never-ending tea gardens that are a sight to behold!
Attukal Waterfalls

We decided to add Attukal Waterfalls to our itinerary. Thick canopy of trees and misty mountains surround this waterfall. We visited a nearby pastoral shop for a cup of hot cardamom tea and enjoyed its aromatic flavours while gazing at the gushing waters from atop a rock. Visit during monsoons to see the falls in all its glory.
Eravikulam National Park

It is considered a paradise for wild animals, birds and butterflies. Spread over 97 square kilometres, here we spotted the endangered Nilgiri Thar. Once a year, the park’s hilly slopes turn into a blue-coloured carpet when the Neelakurinji flowers bloom.
Mattupetty Dam

Mattupetty Dam is nestled between the Munnar hills and is close to the Anamudi Peak. The dam is situated at an altitude of nearly 1,700 metres, making it one of Munnar’s highest dams and a must-visit spot. We visited the popular Indo-Swiss farm project, located three kilometres away, from where we enjoyed splendid views of rolling pastures, grazing cattle, green hills and blue skies. A visit here is one of the most romantic things to do in Kerala.
