Just after Goa became the first COVID-19 free state in India, Manipur Prime Minister Biren Singh has announced that the northeastern state was also COVID-19 free.
“Good news: the second #COVID19 patient who is undergoing treatment at RIMS, Imphal has reported negative of Novel Corona Virus disease. Now Manipur has zero positive cases of COVID-19 as on date as the two cases of Manipur have been reported negative,” Singh tweeted.
While the first of two patients was a 23-year old woman who had returned from the UK, the second 65-year old patient who was tested negative had a recent travel history to Delhi and was reported as having contracted the disease from attending a ‘cluster’ event in the capital.
“There are no fresh cases of the virus in the state,” added Singh.

Goa had a total of seven positive cases in which six of them had recent travel history and one of them was a contact patient. Goa and Manipur have been declared as green states with no new cases being reported from the first week of April.
In lieu of the recent developments in these two states, the Union Home Ministry announced relaxations in the lockdown rules. The government body said that both the states can reopen their businesses while following mandatory safety protocols.
