As tourism boosts in the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the government is taking all measures to further amplify the travel industry. Now, the Paradise on Earth is set to introduce helicopter services to snow-bound destinations, with a host of fun adventure activities. Here are the details. By Anushka Goel
Ever since the pandemic started receding last year, Jammu and Kashmir has been among the top travel destinations for visitors. The boom in tourism here began a couple of years ago, and since then, it has been one of the favourite travel destinations for adventurers, spiritual travellers, and even honeymooners.
Keeping this in mind, the Jammu and Kashmir government has been making efforts to attract more travellers. From adventure activities to tour packages, there’s plenty of offerings to keep travellers interested. And now, the union territories are set to get another travel boost. The government is taking efforts to expand its winter tourism offerings beyond Gulmarg and North Kashmir. The focus will be on the destinations that are snow-bound and not reachable easily, so as to bring travellers to these destinations – using helicopter services.

Jammu and Kashmir to start helicopter services to snow-bound areas

The areas that become unreachable via road due to heavy snow will be connected through choppers. Places such as Gurez Valley, Karnah, Bandipora and other districts that fall close to the Line of Control (LOC) have seen a boost in the number of travellers in recent years. So, the helicopter services will help boost tourism in these destinations during the winters, which would otherwise not be possible due to difficulty in reaching there. A proposal has been submitted for the same.

What’s interesting to note is that these destinations have remained close during the winters for the last 70 years or so. Thus, it’ll be a momentous occasion when the districts receive guests this year. As winter tourism in the Himalayas increases, the Jammu and Kashmir government is also planning to introduce new adventure activities, skiing slopes, winter sports and more to add to the charm of these snow-bound destinations.
