New York is undoubtedly a cultural hub. From The Metropolitan Museum Of Art (MET) to MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) and Broadway, there is just so much to see and do in the city of dreams. The city is all set to have another must-visit — the world’s first cultural institution dedicated to hip hop.

Universal Hip Hop Museum, as it will be known, will be a museum dedicated to the birth and life of hip hop and the ones who made it what it is today. A collaboration between Microsoft and the MIT Center for Advanced Virtuality and artistic greats like Q-Tip, Ice-T, LL Cool J, and Nas among others, the museum is expected to break ground this year.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the Universal Hip Hop Museum will receive a $3,750,000 capital grant to help build the first museum in the world dedicated to hip hop and its culture, reported Bronx.news.12.com.

The museum will feature hundreds of important photos and artifacts that trace the history of the genre and ultimately hopes to preserve, inspire and promote hip hop. Iconic performances and interesting information of some of the well-renowned artists from 45 years ago is what will be on display at the museum.

Currently, a temporary exhibit ‘Revolution of Hip Hop’ operates in Bronx Terminal Market. Experiences include customised virtual realities through different periods in time. The temporary exhibit is currently open to visitors free of cost and gives a glimpse into what can be expected when the main museum gets functional by 2023.
