Built by Spanish architect Guallarts, the smart city in Xiong’an will have modern apartments and balconies, drone-delivery-safe terraces, co-working spaces, food markets and vegetable gardens, and a greenhouse. The architects who won a competition to build this smart city said that the city will serve as a role model for cities in a post-COVID-19 era.
The COVID-proof city will be a self-sufficient city along with a host of amenities; it will also feature a lot of green spaces and many streets, most of which will be reserved for cyclists and pedestrians. The idea behind this smart city is to provide a full life during lockdown or confinement, read a press release (as reported on Insider).

“Our proposal stems from the need to provide solutions to the various crises that are taking place in our planet at the same time, in order to create a new urban life, based in the circular bio-economy that will empower cities and communities,” Guallart architects said (as reported on Insider).
The new COVID-proof city will take ‘self-sufficiency’ to a whole new level by producing its own energy, recycling water, streamlining food production, and reusing materials to promote sustainability. The smart city was an idea promoted by Chinese President Xi Jinping as the ‘new standard’ that can be applied to the rest of the world.
