The eco-tourism hub of Vythiri achieved complete vaccination of its entire adult population, including tourism stakeholders, becoming the first tourist destination to do so, according to The News Minute. This feat was achieved during the vaccination drive held from July 13-17. According to The Hindu, 4,837 tourism stakeholders, including employees in hotels, resorts, home-stays, and serviced villas, taxi and auto drivers, tourist guides, porters, and traders in the 14 wards in Vythiri were administered at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Reports say that Kerala is set to extend the project to other sites as well. The Tourism Department conducted this successful inoculation drive in association with the Health Department.

While this is still the tip of the overarching safety protocol in the region, the drive also aims at covering Alappuzha, Munnar, Fort Kochi, Kovalam, Kumarakom, and Varkala, reported Republic World.
Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas stated that the campaign will be extended to various tourism spots across the state, as the tourism industry has been among the worst-hit amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that vaccination would contribute towards a revival of the tourism industry by making these spots safe and risk-free. Overall, the drive was a successful step towards making Kerala a safe destination for tourists in the aftermath of the pandemic.

Vythiri is known for its soothing natural splendour that attracts eco-tourism enthusiasts. Located in Wayanad, the hill station is some 60 kilometres away from Kozhikode. The destination is a prominent one since Wayanad shares its borders with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. While being geographically close to other states, it also tops the list of tourism spots in South India for a natural retreat.
