As part of its continued efforts at helping and revitalising communities and small-scale businesses, Hyatt Hotels Corporation has relaunched Hyatt Loves Local collaborations across the world. This initiative—currently spanning more than 160 alliances—has metamorphosed to include minority-owned and female-owned businesses as well. Plus, with this guests also get the option to choose from local offerings and experiences, in turn providing “exposure to select local businesses that have struggled during the pandemic,” states an official release.
Currently rolled out in Hyatt hotels across the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Southwest Asia–Hyatt Loves Local is in tune with the Chicago-headquartered firm’s Change Starts Here commitment that aims to “accelerate Hyatt’s longstanding diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.” For this, participating hotels are working with new businesses born during the pandemic, while almost 50 properties have partnered with more than 65 minority-owned and female-owned businesses to create locally-driven experiences.

Emphasising Wellbeing is one such trend introduced. With this, participating hotels now offer new wellness amenities that support local wellness providers. Similarly, with Pet Projects, local pet businesses help travellers pamper their pawed babies on every trip. With The Art of Hospitality, local cultures take centre-stage as participating hotels now provide guests with art, music and film experiences that are enjoyable in a socially-distant manner.
In India, ‘Voluntourism’ and reimagined hotel gift shops have sprung up. While the former involved connecting guests with local organisations that have suffered during the pandemic, the latter alters onsite retails to bring hyper-local products to the fore. Take Hyatt Centric MG Road Bangalore, for instance. Here, the hotel is offering space to Elemental by Nanya, a female-owned concrete décor business, to showcase and sell its products. On the other hand, at Alila Diwa Goa, the team has collaborated with a local podher (bread-maker) to facilitate local bread-making artistry and workshops for children at the nearby community centre.
The Hyatt Loves Local initiatives, according to the official website, are being offered to guests all summer this year, with the possibility of it extending beyond the hot months as well.
