In the days of famous reunions, former Masterchef Australia judges Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris have announced one such get-together of their own (albeit, virtually). In their signature supportive avatar, this unification will also come coupled with a COVID-19 fundraising initiative to help impacted families and individuals in India. By Bayar Jain
In a collaborative effort by Australia India Business Council (AIBC) and former Masterchef Australia judges—Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris—a new COVID-19 fundraising initiative has been announced to help India overcome the ongoing crises. As per an issued release by AIBC, the 12-hour-long virtual live event, Cook4India, aims to complement the AIBC COVID-19 Relief Fundraising Drive.

During Cook4India, the three acclaimed chefs will be hosting live demos, interviewing culinary professionals from around the world, and cooking their favourite creations. To add to the fun, viewers will be given the opportunity to interact with the chefs live while also raising funds for COVID-19-impacted families in India. “All funds will go to Give2Asia…where the funds raised will be used to buy much-needed supplies for those being devastated by COVID-19 in India,” says Preston in a video posted by Mehigan on his Instagram profile.
Apart from the former Masterchef Australia judges, other great names are expected to join the gala. This includes British chef and pioneer of multi-sensory cooking, Heston Blumenthal; French chef and television presenter, Manu Feildel; and head chef of Vue de monde, Shannon Bennett, among others. Past contestants of the Australian cooking show will be joining, too. Think Khanh Ong, Diana Chan, Matthew Sinclair, Darren Purchese, Justine Schofield, and more.
While Cook4India will be hosted on YouTube, viewers can purchase the tickets via Eventbrite, proceeds of which will be sent to charities supporting people affected by the pandemic in India, such as Goonj, SEEDS, and Oxfam India. The show will be streamed on June 19, at 03:00 pm AEST (10:30 am IST). The tickets are priced at AUD 32.74, including taxes (approximately INR 1,830).
