Disney World has announced an opening date for the highly-anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction coming to Magic Kingdom.
The ride, opening on April 4, is based on Disney’s 2010 sci-fi film, “TRON: Legacy,” and will be one of the fastest roller coasters of all the company’s theme parks around the world, Disney shared with Travel + Leisure recently. The announcement was made after a series of clues were shared across the Disney Parks social media channels, challenging eager park goers to decode the opening date.
All about the Tron rollercoaster coming to Disney World
For those familiar with the film, the attraction’s story will pick up where “Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn, has opened a second gateway into a digital realm called the Grid.” The first of these portals is currently open and can be experienced on Shanghai Disneyland’s TRON Lightcycle Power Run, which opened in 2016.
“You’ll feel as if you’re digitised and transported to the Grid for a special Lightcycle race,” Disney shared about the ride’s immersive queue. Guests will take an active position in the storyline as they are on Team Blue and faced with challenging the Grid’s menacing Programs, Team Orange. To achieve victory, riders will “speed across a world with no horizons in a high-stakes race” while passing through eight Energy Gates.
The attraction will be located in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. Disney shares that there will be previews for annual passholders and eligible Disney vacation club members. Once opening on April 4, valid theme park tickets and park reservations will be required to ride. Disney has not shared information on if this attraction will require a virtual queue like other new rides, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
The announcement also included the return of the beloved Magic Kingdom nighttime spectacular, “Happily Ever After,” which will feature updated projections when it opens on April 3, 2023. Additionally, the Disney100 celebration kicks off January 27, 2023, at the Disneyland Resort with other planned celebrations anticipated for Disney Parks worldwide.
