Xi’an ready to launch metro

Xi’an, the home of China’s Terracotta Army, is preparing for the launch of its first metro rail services. The ancient city, which lies in Shaanxi province, is scheduled to open its first subway in late August or early September, local authorities were reported saying this week. The fi rst subway line will be 26km long, and forms part of a major development plan which will see the city eventually launch six metro lines totaling 252km.
