Authorities in Seoul are planning to introduce women-only carriages on the city’s subway trains. The Korean Herald reported that the Seoul Metropolitan Government is initiating the scheme in an effort to keep women safe from sexual assaults. Trials are expected to be launched by September. It is not the fi rst time Korea has launched such as scheme; the women only subway cars were initially rolled-out in 1992, but keeping carriages segregated proved diffi cult and the idea was eventually abandoned.
