NZ arrivals hit by ash cloud

The Chilean ash cloud took a toll on New Zealand tourism arrival in the second quarter.
A report issued yesterday by Statistics New Zealand, showed that the number of short-term visitors to the country fell by 14,600 in June, a yoy decrease of 10%. The research body attribute the dip to the cancellation of flight in and out of the country after the ash cloud crossed the Pacific, invading Kiwi airspace. Until flight cancellations began on 12 June, visitor numbers were actually up on June 2010.
