Qatar Airways was crowned the Best Airline in the latest Skytrax World Airline Awards at the recent Paris Air Show. The Doha-based carrier, which has climbed steadily in the rankings since its seventh-place position three years ago, was also named the Best Middle East Airline for the sixth year running.
Coming in second is Singapore Airlines, which was also the winner of the Best Airline in Asia and the Best Airline for Business Class. Last year’s winner, South Korea’s Asiana Airlines, slipped down to third place this time round.
Finishing fourth is Hong Kong–based Cathay Pacific Airways, which was also named the Best Transpacific Airline and Best First-Class Airline Seat.
Making great strides is Thai Airways, which has risen four spots to its current fifth position. The Bangkok–based carrier also came in first for the Best Airline Economy Class Onboard Catering and Best Economy Class Seat.
In the budget carrier category, AirAsia won the title as the World’s Best Low Cost Airline for the third consecutive year. Turkish Airlines, which was named the ninth best airline, clinched the top spot as the Best Airline in Europe.
More than 18 million airline passengers worldwide participated in this annual survey, which was conducted by the London-based aviation consultants Skytrax over a period of 10 months.
