Christchurch to get post-quake makeover
Published on Jun 27, 2011
A plan has been revealed to redesign the earthquake-hit city of Christchurch. According to agency reports, the makeover plan will move residents and raze homes in areas hardest hit by recent quakes. According to the AP, the New Zealand government has offered to pay about 5,000 Christchurch homeowners to leave. The government will also assess a further 10,000 homes, many of which may also be destroyed. The 7.1- and 6.3-magnitude quakes that rattled the South Island city in September and February killed 181 people.
