Shanghai-Beijing high-speed rail trials to start
Published on May 10, 2011
Trials on the new Shanghai-Beijing high-speed railway will start tomorrow, China’s Ministry of Railways has said. According to a Shanghai Daily report, a month of test runs is planned for the 1,318kmlong line, before the scheduled launch of passenger services at the end of June 2011. China’s rail speed record was shattered on the line during tests last year, with a train reaching 486kph. These speeds will not be seen again however, after China’s new Railways Minister pledged to cut the top speed of high-speed trains in the country to just 300kph in a bid to improve efficiency.
