Japanese Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, has pledged to “rebuild from scratch” following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the northeast of Honshu Island recently. According to Japan’s National Police Agency, the quake destroyed more than 110,000 homes and damaged 1,500 roads, 48 bridges and 15 railway lines. Sendai airport was also badly damaged. More than 20,000 are thought to have lost their lives in the twin disasters.
