Munich Airport, Germany’s second largest hub, is interested in becoming AirAsia X’s third European destination. In an interview with Malaysian news agency, Bernama, the Chairman of Munich airport’s operator, Michael Kerkloh, said he wanted AirAsia X to launch direct flights to and from Kuala Lumpur as part of a bid to strengthen its Asian links.
“Yes, we are interested to get AirAsia X to fly to Munich airport,” Kerkloh told Bernama. “In the years to come, Asia will be more dynamic than Europe… Our interest in Asia is high,” he added.
AirAsia X currently operates to two European airports – London Stansted and Paris Orly.
While the Malaysian carrier has not specifically mentioned plans to launch Munich flights, it has said that it plans to expand its European routes, with Budapest, Prague and Moscow all thought to be in the airline’s future plans. The carrier recently ordered three new Airbus A330s, taking its total order book to 28 A330s and 10 A350s.
