Authorities in central China’s Hubei province are planning to develop an airport serving the Shennongjia Forest District. State news agency Xinhua reported the Hubei Development & Reform Commission as saying this week that the development, located on a grassy plain surrounded by forested mountains, 2,580 metres above sea level, would include a 2,800-metrelong runway, an apron capable of holding three aircraft, and a 3,000m2 terminal building. It will be able to handle up to 250,000 passengers per year. Work on the CNY1.04 billion (US$158 million) hub is due to start next month.
