China to set up high-speed train research centre
Published on Feb 24, 2011
China’s Ministry of Science and Technology has approved plans to set up an engineering research centre for the development of high-speed trains, the country’s state news agency Xinhua has reported. To be developed by CSR Corporation Limited (CSR), China’s largest train maker, the centre, which would be the first of its kind in China, will provide a platform for high-level research and development for China’s burgeoning high-speed rail industry.
CSR is the company behind China’s fastest high-speed train - the CRH-380A - which clocked a new national record of 486.1kph on a test run between Shanghai and Beijing late last year. Reports earlier this year suggested that engineers in Sichuan province are working on a train that could travel at speeds of up to 1,000kph.
